This piece takes as its basis the assumption that 1 second is equal to 10 centimeters. The picture plane is gridded with lines spaced 10 centimeters, or 1 second, apart. The marks inscribed onto the grid are Japanese characters, each denoting the number “1” (一). The time taken to write each character was measured with a stopwatch and recorded at its lower right using a stamp. The assumption that 1 second equals 10 centimeters is a subjective measurement of time defined by the author, while the time measured by the stopwatch is based on a unit of time defined by society. This piece was created with the aim of visualizing a space in which these two different times coexist. The number string “178-42-14” represents a duration of 178 minutes, 42 seconds, and 14 centiseconds: the total amount of time spent writing all the characters.

10cmを1秒と仮定し、10cmごとにグリッドを引いた。その中に”一”という文字を書いている。その”一”は様々な時間で書かれた”一”であり、単位としての時間と主観的感覚としての時間が混在する空間を見た。
